It Doesn't Matter.
When the high range feels like a stretch, it's natural to look at the gear in your hands and wonder if THAT'S the problem.
We hear it constantly on our evaluation calls. What mouthpiece should I use for high range? Do I need a different horn? Should I change my embouchure?
Maybe you've already tried a mouthpiece with a narrower bore or a sharper rim. Or the one that helped a colleague. Maybe it did help a little, hopefully without trading tone or endurance for a note or two of ease. Maybe you even bought the horn. It's nice, it slots a little better, but it took months to adjust to, and it's discouraging to put in that much effort for just a note or two of range.
I’ve been there. I bought a new horn and suffered through the learning curve. I have the usual tub of mouthpieces too. None of it solved my high range. And it actually caused me more distress as I wondered when I'd live up to the horn sitting in the case.
After High Range Magic, I realized it doesn't matter. I can play high notes on pretty much any setup now. Because I changed and my playing changed.
This experience is not unique to me. We've worked with players on horns from average to top end and across most major brands. We’ve seen mouthpieces of every shape and size. We’ve coached students with einsetzen and ansetzen embouchures. And we know - if the setup is fundamentally sound, it doesn't matter.

The first step is willingness to shift our mindset, but that's hard to accomplish alone. What does "shifting your mindset" even mean? Relaxing to hit a new note certainly doesn't feel intuitive. How can mechanics still be off after years of lessons? And don't most of us already feel like decent musicians?
On my initial High Range Magic evaluation call, I finally released those questions and allowed myself to imagine…what if updated pedagogy and the right coach could be my lever into my next octave?
Once I started the curriculum, the updated methods and teaching techniques guided my mechanics from good to great in a short window. I shifted my inner voice from "am I going to miss this high note?" to "I play high notes well." I learned real relaxation through gentle self-monitoring and slow practice. And, I replaced frustration with enjoyment during practice with musicianship. More importantly, I found a community. Every coach and hornist in High Range Magic understood exactly what I was going through, because they had the same struggles and came out the other side too.
So no, you don't need a new mouthpiece. You don't need a new horn. You don't need to change your embouchure. Everything required is already sitting in your case.
